Planktonic foraminifera fluxes and their response to the Asian Monsoon: insights from the Maldives, Indian Ocean

چکیده
This study describes seasonal changes in the fluxes of planktonic foraminifera response to environmental conditions during Asian Monsoon. Sediment trap systems were deployed for a period 1 year at two locations Maldives: Kardiva Channel and Inner Sea. Twenty-six (26) recognized, which six species ( Trilobatus sacculifer , Globorotalia menardii Globigerinoides ruber Globigerina siphonifera Neogloboquadrina dutertrei G. bulloides ) dominated assemblage (82%–84%) both sites. Planktonic chlorophyll-a concentrations are higher Total show preference high nutrient monsoon periods. generally follow trend carbonate except October-November 2014. Species flux reached maximum NE as increase concentration brought by movement North Equatorial Current over The expansion nutrient-rich surface waters, occurring eastward SW westward monsoon, led an population dwelling shallow T. deep waters N. ). Dominance shallow-dwelling throughout sampling suggests stable stratification water column. supports idea wind-mixing rather than local upwelling driving force enrichment nutrients subsequent fluxes. Lateral advection resuspension settling particles traps is evident based on presence benthic Sea samples. These processes, however, did not significantly mask climate ocean signals since there remains clear correlation between conditions.

Refinement of Miocene sea level and monsoon events from the sedimentary archive of the Maldives (Indian Ocean)
International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 359 cored sediments from eight borehole locations in the carbonate platform of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. The expedition set out to unravel the timing of Neogene climate changes, in particular the evolution of the South Asian monsoon and fluctuations of the sea level. The timing of these changes are assessed by dating resultant sedi...
متن کاملThe monsoon circulation of the Indian Ocean
In this paper, we review observations, theory and model results on the monsoon circulation of the Indian Ocean. We begin with a general overview, discussing wind-stress forcing fields and their anomalies, climatological distributions of stratification, mixed-layer depths, altimetric sea-level distributions, and seasonal circulation patterns (Section 2). The three main monsoon circulation sectio...
متن کاملInterdecadal shift in the relationship between the East Asian summer monsoon and the tropical Indian Ocean
In this work, the authors investigate changes in the interannual relationship between the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) and the tropical Indian Ocean (IO) in the late 1970s. By contrasting the correlations of the EASM index (EASMI) with the summer IO sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) between 1953–1975 and 1978–2000, a pronounced different correlation pattern is found in the tropical IO....

15 صفحه اولThe biostratigraphy and paleobiology of Oligocene planktonic foraminifera from the equatorial Pacific Ocean (ODP Site 1218)
Planktonic foraminifera from a continuous Oligocene succession with clear magnetochronology and sediment cycles at Ocean Drilling Program Site 1218 (equatorial Pacific Ocean) were studied in the interval from 27 to 30 Ma. Paragloborotalia taxa are common and we examined their size, relative abundance, and stable isotopes. Multispecies stable isotope data indicate the depth habitats of Oligocene...
